Against All Odds
Just months away from her high school graduation, Athina Angelene's life was turned upside-down when she was broad-sided in a horrific car accident in February 2007. News from the Partnership for Children of Cumberland County

Maureen McKeon is the Community Education Manager for the Partnership for Children of Cumberland County. In that role, she is responsible for increasing awareness of early childhood issues in our community. She truly believes that children must have the best start possible if they are going to succeed in life. Maureen was passionate about making sure her children were exposed to everyday learning experiences, as well as high quality preschools and child care, when they were younger. Attention, Parents: Did You Know ...
ImageThe U.S. breast-feeding rate has hit it's highest mark in at least 20 years with more than three-quarters of new moms nursing their infants, according to a recently released government report. About 77 percent of new mothers breast-feed, at least briefly, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

Experts attributed the rise to education campaigns that emphasize that breast milk is better than formula at protecting babies against disease and childhood obesity. A changing culture that accommodates nursing mothers may also be a factor.
